Meet our April Chapter Meeting Speaker, Charlie Shadan

We have some great events on tap this spring, including our chapter fundraiser, Trout on The Town, featuring TU CEO Chris Wood and our April Chapter Meeting with Charlie Shadan, proprietor of Evening Sun Fly Shop in Pepperell, MA. Charlie runs a fantastic shop and possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of Massachusetts' trout waters.

Charlie has been fly fishing for over 53 years locally as well as all over the USA. He has owned the Evening Sun Fly Shop for 13 years and started the shop from scratch, building it up progressively over the years. Charlie's background was in teaching, serving as a  Math teacher for 14 years. Because of this background, he spends a great deal of time imparting his knowledge of fly fishing to his clients.

Fly tying lessons, seminars, presentations, and fly schools are all integral parts of the fabric of the Evening Sun Fly Shop. Charlie strives to make his shop a haven for knowledge. "Friendly service, knowledgeable staff, huge inventory, and very competitive pricing are the hallmarks of my shop," Charlie always says.

We are looking forward to Charlie’s presentation at our meeting and he is looking forward to introducing himself to our membership. His talk will focus on the four topics below.

  1. How to set up a beginning nymph rig with proper weighting
  2. Nymph rod demonstration. Length, weight, rod taper.
  3. Nymph lines and leader construction
  4. Indicator vs. no indicator discussion

Charlie hopes these nuggets of information will enhance our passion for fly fishing and lead to more success on the river.
