GBTU Fall Tree Planting Success

Thank You Volunteers !

About a dozen volunteers come out Octoer 24 th to plant 60 young trees to help restore one of Boston's last remaining trout streams.   All wore masks and followed Covid protoicals.

This planting event was possibile due to the MA/ RI TU Council $1,907 Coldwater Grant 2020 for a streamside tree planting project along one of the most ecologically diverse coldwater resources in our GBTU homewaters, Pine Tree Brook.

Based on our conversations with the Neponset River Watershed Association, this is a unique opportunity for our GBTU chapter to develop and execute a restoration project within this area of land that abuts Pine Tree Brook.

The native trees planiting will help improve shade over the Brook.  Thoughtful and informed land and forest stewardship along coldwater resources is critical to ensure cool water temperatures in streams so that populations of species adapted to cool temperatures are able to survive.

This was the first of two plantings.  Stay tuned for a Spring date.

Thank you to the MA / RI Council for approving this grant. Thank you to board members Chris Hirsch and Gabby Queenen for a well-written grant request.
